Hello Readers,
It’s been a busy week, not much time for illustrating my story.
Taxes took much of my time this week, but now they’re finally done & ready for my CPA. I never like doing taxes, but once I start I enjoy the process of looking back over the past year and remembering what I did.

Today, relatives visited. It was fun to see my nephew and his son. After they left I knew time was running out to do another illustration before reporting my progress to you, my readers. So I nudged myself to just sit down at my art table.

I looked at my previous blog posts & read a comment from one of my readers. She mentioned a song she likes, “For the First Time.”

It says, When was the last time you did something for the first time? It reminded me of how I feel every time I try to create another illustration for my story. Each new painting is “for the first time.” The song reminded me,
It don’t matter if I trip or fall…
and I moved another inch closer to my next illustration.

I started sketching my third illustration and realized I needed a different, bigger perspective. The perspective of the main character in the story is from a distance as he approaches the scene. Suddenly, it became clear what the illustration should be.

I tossed my original sketch and started over with a new sheet of paper.
I looked on Pintrest for similar scenes & found it.
I sketched it in pencil. Then jotted down ideas for colors.
That’s as far as I got. And that’s good enough. I fixed dinner and turned on my favorite movie series. Time to relax at the end of this day.

This is progress for me: to do a little bit and stop. It keeps it fresh & enjoyable. Not a chore.
Now I’m more likely to return tomorrow.
“Rome wasn’t built in a day” and neither are my illustrations.

Have a good week dear readers. When was the last time you tried something for the first time? I’d love to hear about it.
