“Bake a cake?” you say.
Yes, a simple coffee cake.
While reading my friend’s newsletter (link below) of yummy cake recipes from her mother, these thoughts came to mind:
• Take time to taste the sweetness of life.
• Slow down, pause all the preparing & packing for my move to Oregon.
• Don’t be so busy you miss the joy ~
of doing something you love to do, like baking,
of creating something simple.
• Just for today, & maybe every Sunday ~
• Pause the packing & prep of my future move to Oregon.
• Take time to enjoy what I love, here & now.
• Take a break. Today is Sunday, “the day of rest,” right?
• I will bake a coffee cake, simple & sweet.
• I think it will love me back with its sweet cinnamon aroma & taste of times past now present.
• Baking feels like an affirmation, a celebration of life in the midst of chaos.
• Spring is returning.
• Why not bake a cake to welcome back spring’s sweetness after the bitter cold of winter. (Maybe that’s why Ruth’s mother baked after surviving the holocaust. Maybe she was affirming the simple goodness, love & sweetness of life through her baking.)
• Maybe I could also bake a coffee cake to thank my movers this April.
• But for today, I’ll enjoy sweet moments as I pause from packing to bake
a sweet coffee cake.

May you enjoy it as much as I have. You’ll discover not only her love of cooking good food, but also how it’s intertwined with love, family, resilience & good memories….
May I remember to pause from the many tasks at hand and make a few good memories of time & taste savored. ❤️
